Hatred is love’s shadow, and sacrifice is the essence of redemption. Against the sweeping backdrop of national enmity and family vendettas, this story explores how two souls torn apart by fate move from bitter, irreconcilable hatred to mutual understanding and self-sacrifice, ultimately finding redemption both as individuals and in their love.
With the imperial capital on the verge of falling, Empress Su Wan leaves alone for the northern frontier to save her kingdom and its people. There, she seeks help from Pei Shu, the feared King of Asura, who commands a powerful army and holds a grudge against her for the slaughter of his family. Bound together by hatred, they make a pact. As they return to the capital to quell the rebellion, the truth sealed away for five years gradually comes to light, and their feelings become entangled in a complicated mix of resentment and unspoken understanding. In the end, Su Wan sacrifices her life to calm the Asura bloodline raging out of control within Pei Shu after the truth is revealed. Pei Shu then sets out to defy fate for love and find a way for them to reunite.
