The Sequel to Nine Yin and Nine Yang

Zhang Wuji fuses the Nine Yin and Nine Yang arts, creates the Taixuan Scripture, and takes revenge on Duan Ziyu

At the Battle of Bright Peak, Zhang Wuji is gravely wounded by Duan Ziyu, who has partially fused the Nine Yin and Nine Yang arts through dual cultivation. Ming Cult followers lie dead or injured, and disaster is imminent. At this critical moment, the Yellow-Dressed Maiden and Zhang Sanfeng appear to save him. Zhang Wuji goes into hiding with them for a time, then resolves to travel to Ice and Fire Island to seek a way to fuse his inner power. Zhao Min stays by his side throughout.

Meanwhile, Duan Ziyu keenly spots the power vacuum surrounding the founding of the new dynasty and decisively throws in his lot with Zhu Yuanzhang. He establishes the Brocade Guards and ruthlessly slaughters founding heroes such as Xu Da and Li Shanchang, along with former Ming Cult members, until he wields power over the entire court. But the dangers of forcibly fusing the Nine Yin and Nine Yang arts begin to surface. He goes so far as to castrate himself and create the Sunflower Manual, driving his family apart: Shi Qing becomes a nun, Situ Mingyue takes her own life, and Zhang Yuzhen has an affair with the Prince of Yan. Yet for all his power and physical mutilation, he dares not show his anger.

Three years later, Zhang Wuji comprehends the harmony of yin and yang on Ice and Fire Island. He fuses the Nine Yin and Nine Yang arts, the Great Shift of the Universe, Taiji Fist and Sword, and the martial arts of the Sacred Fire Tablets to create the Taixuan Scripture, reaching the pinnacle of martial arts. When he learns that Yang Xiao and Fan Yao have been captured by Duan Ziyu and are to be executed, he immediately returns to Yingtian Prefecture and confronts Duan Ziyu outside the Brocade Guards’ prison. With moves from the Taixuan Scripture, Zhang Wuji calmly counters the Sunflower Manual, ultimately killing Duan Ziyu and rescuing Yang Xiao and Fan Yao.

Afterward, Zhang Wuji storms the imperial palace alone and defeats Zhang Yuchu, leader of the Celestial Masters Sect. He urges Zhu Yuanzhang to abolish the Brocade Guards and treat the common people and founding heroes well. When it is all over, he turns down Zhu Yuanzhang’s high office and generous rewards, and returns to Ice and Fire Island with Zhao Min. The island is later renamed Hero Island, and he carves the Taixuan Scripture into a cave wall, waiting for someone worthy to find it.
