Breakneck Escape: From Wrecked Bike to Tour De France Champion

Three years ago, Lin Ye was the brightest rising star in Chinese cycling. But after a suspicious positive doping test, he was banned for life. His mentor died of depression, his sponsors pulled out, and he fell from the heights into the gutter. He could only make ends meet at a bike repair shop, assembling secondhand bicycles.

In 2025, the smart indoor cycling league exploded in popularity. This indoor competition, powered by digital twin technology that could recreate Alpine routes in real time, became his only chance at a comeback. Riding his own modified XC hardtail, Lin Ye stunned everyone at the Ruiguang Creative Factory venue in Zhengzhou. He won with a record-breaking power output, only to have his result voided because his equipment supposedly failed to meet competition standards.

At the crucial moment, the second-rate team Windshadow, on the verge of disbanding, offered him a place. Its director was Chen Feng, the son of the old coach who had stood by Lin Ye all those years ago. Lin Ye discovered that behind his ban three years earlier was a trap set by the top team Thunder, which wanted to monopolize cycling talent.

From domestic indoor cycling leagues to the multi-day Tour of Qinghai Lake, from the snowy mountain stages of the Giro d’Italia to the Champs-Élysées in the Tour de France, Lin Ye relies on his astonishing explosive muscle memory and his unparalleled understanding of bicycle mechanics. Again and again, he becomes the breakaway specialist, delivering decisive wins in mass sprints. He must not only counter Thunder’s schemes, but also overcome an old hamstring injury and turn Windshadow, a team of scattered individuals, into a true unit.

When data simulations on smart trainers collide with the extreme challenges of real roads, and the manipulation of capital clashes with the spirit of sport, Lin Ye will ride his machine before the whole world and prove that true champions never need shortcuts.
