Hidden Dragon: Codename Daybreak

Shanghai, 1941.

Ling Chen, a clerk in the archives department of the Japanese puppet regime’s intelligence bureau, is considered the office “good-for-nothing.” He drops teacups while delivering documents, stammers nervously when giving reports, and even the guard dogs at the secret service division bark at him more than once.

No one knows that this “coward,” who wouldn’t dare step on an ant, hides a poisoned silver needle in his sleeve and top-secret codes in his pocket watch. Even fewer know that his codename is “Dawn,” and that he is an ace military intelligence agent who makes the Japanese tremble in fear!

When the Japanese Special Higher Police target “Nightingale,” an underground Communist Party operative, Ling Chen deliberately spills coffee over the arrest list and stammers to stall for time: “S-Sir… I-I’ll check this document… one more time?”

When the mole “Viper” tries to pass along false intelligence, Ling Chen pretends to sort files while tapping Morse code on the desk with his fingertips, sending the real message to his contact.

During one operation, his cover is blown. The moment a gun is pressed to his temple, Ling Chen activates the System and rewinds ten seconds. He snatches the gun and pins the enemy against the wall, his icy gaze utterly unlike his usual self. “The game is over.”

From the archives department to the Special Higher Police, from Shanghai to Nanjing, Ling Chen dances on the edge of a blade and navigates a web of lies. He must not only root out the mole in military intelligence, but also foil the Japanese army’s “Cherry Blossom Plan,” and protect the newspaper delivery girl who always sneaks him candy amid the chaos of war…

Dawn is near, the hidden dragon takes flight. This darkness will be broken by my own hand!
