Espionage: Cracking the Black Box

On the eve of the Battle of Shanghai, Lu Chen, a new recruit in the Military Statistics Bureau, accidentally activates a family heirloom jade pendant and gains the ability to relive an object’s memories by touching it.

When a Japanese military code is stolen, all he needs is a scrap of codebook stained with coffee to reconstruct the entire scene of a spy’s rendezvous.

At a banquet in the residence of a high-ranking official in the Wang Jingwei regime, he uses a silver wine cup to identify the mastermind behind a poisoning plot.

Faced with an intelligence trap laid by the “Black Box” organization, Lu Chen sneers. “Every move you plan is already in my memory.”

From cracking the Japanese “Shiden” cipher and turning enemy aces into double agents, to blowing up an arsenal and escorting key scientists to safety, Lu Chen wields memory like a blade, carving a path through a battlefield without gunfire.

One night, when his superior questions the source of his intelligence, Lu Chen presses the jade pendant against the man’s gun handle. “Would you like me to repeat where you met with the underground party last night?”
