Synopsis

The Romance of the Yuan Dynasty is a historical novel in chapter form by Cai Dongfan, a renowned modern writer of historical romances. It is part of his series Popular Romances of the Dynasties of China. The novel consists of sixty chapters and recounts the rise and fall of the Yuan dynasty in a literary style, from the rise of the Mongol tribes to the fall of the dynasty. Using the accessible style of a popular historical romance, the author recreates the political, military, and social landscape of the Yuan era. The story focuses on major events such as Genghis Khan’s unification of the Mongols, the establishment of the four khanates, the Yuan conquest of the Central Plains, and the dynasty’s later decline. It also interweaves palace anecdotes, ethnic relations, and accounts of lands beyond the realm. The book offers not only literary enjoyment but also reflects Cai Dongfan’s approach to writing history: learning from the past and paying close attention to human affairs. With its vivid language and carefully structured narrative, it is an accessible introduction to Yuan history and the cultural exchange between Mongols and Han Chinese.

Historical Novels Based on Official History

Historical novels based on official history, not unofficial accounts. Any dynasty is fine, but it absolutely has to be official history! Official history! Please! Historical fiction is really useful to me.

Books That Reflect Real History

I'm looking for books similar to *Understanding the Turbulent Three Kingdoms Through a Single Set of Books (7 Volumes)*. I want history books that reflect real history without too much artistic embellishment. Excessive distortions of the facts rob reading of its meaning and distort one's values.

Recommend Great Historical Novels Set in the Qin, Han, Tang, Song, or Ming Dynasties

Historical novels with believable, well-written stories, where wars are bloody and peace is fraught with undercurrents. Male-oriented fiction, not the kind where ancient heroes are summoned.
