Heavenly Return: The Jian Lineage

Bian Que enters the world with the Tianhui Medical Slips, wielding the “four methods of diagnosis: inspection, listening and smelling, inquiry, and pulse-taking” to expose the Alchemy Sect’s scheme involving a corrupting elixir and the Shamanic Medicine Sect’s bird-plague curse. He sets up a medical tent in Linzi and saves the people, laying the initial foundations for “treating illness once it has arisen.” He then heads north to the Xiongnu, dispels a bone curse and battles a poison cult. In the far north, he protects the dams and fights epidemics, making up for the shortcomings of “diagnosing illness through emotional states.” He elevates the “Way of Medicine” from mere technique to a compassionate principle of “healing the illnesses of the heart.” Later, he travels to Penglai and passes through the “Three Delusions,” dispelling the myth of an “elite Way of Medicine.” He establishes three pillars: “preventing illness,” “treating illness once it has arisen,” and “healing the illnesses of the heart.” He builds a global epidemic prevention network, turning “the Way of Medicine knows no borders” from an ideal into cross-regional cooperation. Finally, with “fearlessness for all under heaven” as its core, he passes on his teachings to a new generation of healers. From the fish-scale epidemic in the Eastern Sea to an overseas volcanic epidemic, from grassland wheat seeds to medicinal herbs of the Western Regions, he transforms the four methods of diagnosis into a legacy passed down across millennia. This is not only an epic of fighting epidemics, but also a hymn to “compassion that never dies.” From the warmth of Bian Que’s pulse pillow to the glimmer of light on a modern medical student’s bamboo slips, the belief that “the Way of Medicine is not about treating those who are never ill, but helping people live without fearing illness” will forever take root in the bustle of everyday life.
