Synopsis of The Eye in the Screen
I. Core Premise
Protagonist: Lin Xia, a supernatural fiction writer who is accustomed to writing late at night. For research, she buys secondhand electronic devices. She is somewhat sensitive to the supernatural but has no real experience dealing with paranormal events.
Key object: A secondhand laptop with a badly worn exterior. Its previous owner was a programmer who suddenly disappeared. A mysterious hidden folder on the hard drive lies at the heart of the strange phenomena.
Central phenomenon: A bizarre eye appears on the screen. It has the features of a living creature: it blinks, its eyelashes quiver, and its iris changes color. It can move in sync with images on the hard drive and indirectly control the computer.
Central mysteries: The true identity of the eye on the screen; its connection to the previous owner's disappearance; why it is “watching” the protagonist; and the nature of the points of light in its pupils.
II. Plot Outline
(I) Opening: The First Signs
Setting the mood: At three in the morning, Lin Xia sits in her study, exhausted and stuck on her writing. Only the sound of her keyboard and her now-cold coffee remain, emphasizing the stillness and loneliness of the room.
Foreshadowing: The story introduces the secondhand laptop and mentions the previous owner's disappearance, planting clues for the mysteries to come.
First warning: Lin Xia spots a dark red afterimage flashing across the taskbar. She assumes the device is simply wearing out, drawing the attention of both the reader and the protagonist to the first sign of something strange.
(II) Development: Fear Intensifies
The phenomenon takes shape: The dark red afterimage gathers in the center of the screen, gradually forming the outline of an eye. It shifts from blurry to clear, revealing details such as the pupil and iris and confirming that the “eye” is really there.
First shock: When Lin Xia tries to shut down the computer, the eye on the screen blinks like a real eye, shattering the assumption that it is merely a device malfunction.
