I Just Joined the Shanhai Mediation Office, and the Queen Mother of the West Is Already at My Door

Lu Wu, a burned-out office worker who has just been laid off, stumbles upon a mysterious job posting:

[Shanhai Office of Order, now hiring one “Order Mediator.” Requirements: Be brave, eloquent, and willing to work 996 hours of overtime (nine-tailed foxes, nine-headed birds, and six-legged beasts included). Benefits: Five social insurances and a housing fund, a cure for every disease, and household registration across all three realms.]

Lu Wu: ? A scam?

Then, hoping for the high salary, he goes to an interview. His very first case is a neighborhood dispute: “Influencer nine-tailed fox sues neighbor Bifang bird for dropping fire from above and burning down her parasol-tree balcony.”

Lu Wu is dumbfounded. It turns out the Classic of Mountains and Seas is real, and all these gods and mythical beasts live among us. They fight over parking spaces, fret over school-district homes until they go bald, and even get fleeced in the stock market!

And he has awakened the bloodline of the ancient deity Lu Wu. His words possess the power of “contracts,” making him a natural fit for managing this unruly bunch.

From then on, Lu Wu embarks on the life of a burned-out office worker, mediating all the petty disputes of the mythical beasts of the mountains and seas.

“The Dragon King’s idiot son is street racing again? Take away his scales!”

“The bank run by a Pixiu has been reported for only taking money in and never paying any out? Ban it from swallowing gold for three days!”

“Xing Tian and the Yellow Emperor are arguing again about where to put his head? Give each of them a bad review and put it on the community notice board!”

But just when he thinks he has landed a job at a divine neighborhood committee, he discovers that these trivial disputes conceal a massive conspiracy capable of overturning the human world. And the legendary ruler of Kunlun, Queen Mother of the West, comes to see him in person and hands him a mediation request. The defendant is... the Heavenly Dao!
