Mom, I Want to Get Married

“The best partner is the one you snatch.”

Wu Meilan believes this with all her heart. When she hears that two graduates of Peking University have come to the municipal government as selected civil servants, she immediately sets her sights on the best one for her daughter Chen Xi: Doctor Zhou. She'll bring all her connections to bear, plan one “perfect chance encounter” after another, and even wager her family's future to make it happen.

“But that's not how I want to be snatched...”

Chen Xi is a “good girl” in the eyes of outsiders, but inside, she's trapped in a besieged fortress built by her mother out of debt and expectations. She longs for marriage, longs to escape, yet even having a crush makes her feel guilty. When she discovers that she and Doctor Zhou are so perfectly in sync on a spiritual level, overwhelming shame and fear consume her: her affection began with a carefully orchestrated deception.

This is more than a war within one family.

- Su Qing, an executive who returned from overseas, uses her “clear-eyed pragmatism” to fight her mother's relentless pressure: “It's not that I don't want to get married. I just don't want to marry someone because of his ‘qualifications.’”

- Lin Wei, a wealthy heiress held hostage by her family's fortune, searches the eyes of every man who approaches her: “Do you like me, or my father's company?”

Three girls, three predicaments, one shared cry. Behind them stand three mothers with firm convictions and different tactics, masterminding their daughters' marriages as life's most important battleground and investment.

When “It's for your own good” becomes the heaviest of shackles, and “love” is reduced to a commodity with a price tag, can they take back control of their own lives and build marriages of their own amid the ruins of romance?
