Gene Lock: The Third Civilization Awakens Within Me

In 2187, the “Great Silence” begins: all of humanity’s interstellar colonies suddenly lose contact, leaving Earth an “island” sealed off by an unknown civilization. Lin Ye, a mechanic in a wasteland city, is repairing the black box of a crashed colony ship when he accidentally activates the “Starfall Code” embedded in his genes. It is a “spark of civilization” left to humanity by a prehistoric alien civilization, and the only key to breaking the blockade.

As the code awakens, Lin Ye finds he can communicate with rogue AIs and mutated interstellar creatures. He also discovers that the truth behind the “Great Silence” is far more brutal than he imagined: the “Watcher Civilization” that has sealed off Earth is actually a “civilization filter” created by a prehistoric civilization. Humanity is about to be judged “unfit” for its “self-destructive tendencies” and face complete annihilation.

To save humanity, Lin Ye gathers an exiled starship captain, a rebellious AI consciousness, and the “Keepers,” a people who possess ancient technology. Together, they push from Earth’s wastelands all the way to the heart of the galaxy. They must fight the Watchers’ mechanical legions and solve the “survival trials” of interstellar civilization, all while contending with betrayal and suspicion among humans. After all, not everyone is willing to trust “alien code,” and some want to claim it for themselves and become the new “rulers of the universe.”
