Redemption at Namtso

“Sometimes, all it takes to save someone is giving her a reason to put off her decision.”

Su Qing stood beside Namtso Lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, its waters blue as a mirror. All she wanted, though, was to end her life. Years of depression, betrayal at work, and the loss of loved ones had pushed her to the brink. This trip to Tibet was her farewell to the world.

At the decisive moment, Chen An appeared. A former rescue worker who ran a small guesthouse in Tibet, he was just as trapped in the prison of his own past. He saw what she intended to do but said nothing, asking her instead to “look after the guesthouse for a few days.” And so she stayed.

On the plateau, 4,718 meters above sea level, two wounded souls began an unexpected stretch of life together. By helping with simple chores at the guesthouse, meeting the warmhearted local Tibetans, and experiencing the everyday rhythms of prayer-wheel pilgrimages, Su Qing gradually began to feel life stirring again beside one of the purest lakes in the world. And as Chen An helped her, he also faced the past he had fled after a failed rescue.

When a blizzard hit, the two had to cross extreme terrain together to save a sick child. Through this perilous journey, they ultimately found redemption in one another and the courage to keep moving forward.
