From Bingcheng to Shanghai: A Train Cook’s Rebirth and Rise

Standing in front of the supermarket shelves, Yu Hui stared blankly at the beautifully packaged Qiulin red sausage. It was something he had never been able to afford for his daughter, not even before he died in his previous life. The next second, a shrill horn blared in his ears. He jolted awake to find himself lying on a hard bed in a communal apartment building in Harbin in 1982. On the wall hung a faded New Year print celebrating the women's volleyball team's championship. How had an ordinary office worker from the twenty-first century been reborn into the era when his father worked as a train cook? In his previous life, his father had been framed by a coworker and swindled by a friend. He spent his whole life trapped in the kitchen of a green-skinned train, living a miserable half-life. This time, Yu Hui clenched his fists. He would clear his father's name, and use his twenty-first-century perspective to turn the green trains running between the Ice City and Shanghai into mobile warehouses! He would take black fungus and frozen pears to Shanghai, bring polyester fabric and sewing machines back to the Northeast, bargain with the outspoken independent trader Jiang Huiying, and make a powerful ally of the train policeman, Old Zhou. From the despised son of a train cook to a cargo-trading whiz envied across the entire railway line, Yu Hui would carve out a life of confidence in the winds of the 1980s, making up for both lifetimes!
