A Dream of the Red Chamber: Jia Wusheng

On a snowy night atop Mount Tai, Jia Baoyu died in meditation, seeing through the emptiness of the mortal world.

On his sixth birthday, the Devil of the Mortal World awoke, reborn with a lifetime of regrets.

The Second Master Bao who once doted on the women around him and scorned officialdom now had eyes as cold as a frozen pool.

He buried the pain that burned in his heart.

By day, he played the part of a mischievous fool; by night, he bribed officials with great sums of money,

secretly creating a humble scholar’s identity under the name “Jia Wusheng.”

By the light of a lone oil lamp, he pored over the classics he had once despised.

In the turbulent world of the imperial examinations, he became a poor scholar with no one to rely on and claimed the titles of Jieyuan and Huiyuan in succession.

Then, in the Golden Hall, the fifteen-year-old top scholar removed his scholar’s cap and revealed the face of Rongguo House’s legitimate grandson. The entire court was stunned, and the game of the Red Chamber was overturned from that moment on. He moved carefully, step by step, all to protect those fragile lives,

unmask the sham of “a golden match made in heaven,”

and rewrite the fate of “a vast blank land, clean and bare.”
