Record of Taming Evil: The Netherworld Pact

On a rainy night at a desolate waystation, an apparently ordinary funerary rite lets Chen Qing, heir to the Southern Mao tradition, glimpse a bizarre and otherworldly “reality” through his right eye: cold black runes turning in circles, and dark red flames of resentment entwined with countless anguished faces. From then on, his forcibly awakened yin-yang eye and the searing pain of the ancestral Stone Soul constantly remind him that the world is far more complicated than it seems. Alongside him are Bai Xiaoqi, a Northern Ma disciple who seems flighty and greedy but is actually loyal and devoted; Zhang Yi, a tough detective who believes in materialism and tries to document anomalies scientifically; and Wu Qingyuan, a learned scholar obsessed with folkloric secrets. A string of uncanny paranormal incidents forces the unlikely group to join forces. From a funeral parlor that manufactures evil objects to a murder tomb shrouded in mist, from death games on the dark web to ancient Xiangxi gu magic, they follow the clues and gradually uncover a vast organization called the Shadow Alliance and its terrifying goal: using scattered Netherworld Contracts as keys to extract the dragon veins and overthrow the existing world, then build a so-called “new world” out of ultimate chaos. Traditional arts clash with modern technology, while conviction and desire contend in the gray area between good and evil. This is a journey of protection and sacrifice. They must press on through their own wounds and endless horrors to stop the approaching apocalyptic catastrophe.
