Before the Sparks Fade

Lin Ye, the "Red Star" from a small town, is hot-blooded and impulsive, generous to his friends, yet burdened by the pressures of everyday life. A secondhand instant camera is his way of glimpsing the truth of the world, and it also conceals a blazing talent waiting to be discovered. Zhou Yubai, the perfect elite known as the "Glacier," is rational and aloof, imprisoned in the gilded cage of his family's expectations. A pair of noise-canceling headphones shuts out the world's clamor, while also locking away the thunder and longing suppressed in his heart.

As deskmates in their second year of high school, they make ice and fire collide. Lin Ye's instinctive, hot-blooded impulses repeatedly tear through Zhou Yubai's meticulously drawn plans and rules. Zhou Yubai's cold calculations, weighing every gain and loss, constantly condemn Lin Ye's instinctive, reckless protectiveness. Their ideals are irreconcilable, yet feelings quietly take root in the brush of fingertips, walking side by side on the way home late at night, and vulnerable moments under pressure: an unnamed longing to be truly seen by the other.

But the steamer of reality soon crushes their youthful feelings. The college entrance exam and the chasm between social classes hang over them like swords: Lin Ye's narrow path leads to making a living, and his talent is locked away; Zhou Yubai's broad road is paved with shackles, binding his true self. One decisive sentence, "We're not from the same world," cuts through their brief glimmer of light.

Time does not extinguish the sparks. Instead, it hurls them into an even fiercer storm. In the city's furnace, Lin Ye struggles on the margins, his camera both a blade and a burden, his talent honed to a sharp edge amid contempt and unspoken rules. Zhou Yubai fights beneath a halo of acclaim, his family striking at him from the shadows, while the edges he has kept hidden become his final shield.

The fog of distance, the barbs of class, the blade of coming out, the wearing grind of worldly life... Countless times, love teeters on the brink of collapse. At the edge of despair, they become each other's lifeline, pulling the other back from the abyss again and again.
