Eighteen Bends

[Rural life in a bygone era + realistic everyday life + family-of-origin issues + ensemble cast] Cui Zhenzhu of Shibawan Village married with dreams of a happy marriage and moved to Shenlai Village across the river, only to be trapped in the nightmare Jin Chang'an had created. After the wedding, her husband was lazy and violent. His fists and curses crushed every soft part of her. As she struggled to survive, Zhenzhu grew sharp and numb. She raised three children with her blood and sweat, yet amid endless arguments, she became someone she barely recognized. A twisted marriage and three children scarred by fate, all under the silent gaze of two villages on opposite riverbanks, slowly reveal the most painful truth about family-of-origin trauma: how violence and cowardice pass silently from one generation to the next, and how love and hate remain forever trapped in the same cage.
