Secret Crush: Seeing the Small in the Great

Chongqing summers are damp and stifling, and the mountain city’s stairways wind and twist. On the first day of school, the quiet, introverted Su Zhiwei crosses paths on the steep, hilly campus with Lu Jian, a whirlwind of a basketball player. He tosses out a hurried “Watch where you’re going” before disappearing into the crowd. She clutches her backpack strap, remembering only his retreating figure.

In class, Su Zhiwei is the quiet girl in the corner, always writing, while Lu Jian is the dazzling PE representative basking in the sunshine. Their worlds have nothing to do with each other until a group assignment forces them to work together. Su Zhiwei discovers that beneath his carefree exterior, the boy is thoughtful and attentive. Lu Jian, meanwhile, is amazed by the rich world flowing from her pen, far deeper than she lets on.

At the school sports meet, Lu Jian shines on the basketball court. But the Band-Aid Su Zhiwei quietly offers him makes his heart race. Christmas gifts, standing shoulder to shoulder to take in the view from the mountaintop, and feelings hidden in Jay Chou’s songs… Their distance shrinks little by little, yet an unspoken crush still lies between them.

When Lu Jian finally gathers the courage to confess, Su Zhiwei realizes that her secret love was never one-sided. Their story of youth blossoms amid the lively atmosphere of Chongqing. They promise to work hard and get into the same university, so their feelings no longer have to remain a secret.

This is a story about secret crushes, growing up, and two people choosing each other. It unfolds in a mountain city of steep hills and winding roads, with trains passing through buildings, Jay Chou’s melodies, and the purest heart-fluttering moments of youth.
