Glass Alley: Ready to Take Flight

In the turbulent early years of the Republic of China, around the 1920s and 1930s, the Su family ran Chengxintang, a century-old colored-glass workshop tucked away in the lanes of Gusu, an ancient city in Jiangnan. The widowed matriarch, Madam Su, had kept the family business afloat for years through resilience and wisdom, while raising her four daughters, each with a distinct personality: Su Yunyi, the eldest; Yunzhen, the second; Yunxiu, the third; and Yunhui, the youngest. The story follows the four sisters as they grow and make choices amid an era of great change, from the New Culture Movement and the rise of national industries to the looming shadow of war. Through their family bonds and romances, it paints a moving picture of women seeking their own worth and protecting their home as tradition collides with modernity.
