The Confucian Physician Sage: I Slay Demons with Poetry and the Classics

Chen Yuan is a gifted scholar from a poor family who embarks on the imperial examination path to clear his family’s name. He makes an unexpected discovery: the “righteous spirit” contained in the Confucian classics can not only strengthen him, but also combine with his extraordinary medical skills to form a unique system of combat and healing: “nurturing life through virtue, dispelling illness through literature.” In a world where “words become law and poems can kill,” Chen Yuan has no System and relies on no cheat abilities. He advances through sheer understanding of the Confucian and Daoist classics and careful planning, outwitting and overwhelming every opponent. Starting as a mere licentiate, he debates the greatest scholars, subdues mountains and rivers with poetry, and brings order to the realm through literature. Along the way, he meets Zhao Qingyan, a princess sent to marry for peace who bears a secret tied to the nation’s fortune. They begin by using each other, but eventually entrust their lives to one another as they confront a powerful villainous force that steals the world’s literary fortune and seeks to rule the world through twisted doctrines. In the end, Chen Yuan not only achieves fame and success, but also begins to reflect on the true meaning of the Confucian and Daoist path as he reaches the limits of his pursuit of power. He vows to create a new age in which everyone can read, gain wisdom, and ward off evil with righteous spirit.
