The Sect's Most Worthless Disciple

Lin Chen was born with a “natural false spiritual root,” making him the Lin family's once-in-a-century “cultivation waste” in Qingyang City. Ever since he could remember, he'd lived with the disdain of his clan and the mockery of the servants. During the spiritual-root test, he was thrown off the testing platform. His fellow clan members stole his food and smashed up his home. Even his own father regarded him as “the shame of the Lin family,” banishing him to the woodshed to fend for himself. When he was eighteen, his cousin pushed him off a cliff while he was trying to obtain the lowest-grade Qi Gathering Pill for his gravely ill mother. Certain he was going to die, he unexpectedly awakened the mysterious ancient jade hidden in his chest for eighteen years.

The jade contained an ancient cultivation scripture, the Chaos Spirit-Nurturing Art, which could temper his “false spiritual root” into a “chaos spiritual root” impervious to all techniques! On the brink of death, he used the scripture to draw qi into his body and barely reached the first level of Qi Refining. He was then unexpectedly noticed by an outer-sect elder of the Qingyun Sect who happened to be passing by, and taken into the sect as a “menial disciple.”

After joining the sect, he remained a “worthless nobody” in everyone's eyes. The manager of the servant quarters skimmed his cultivation resources, inner-sect disciples used him as a punching bag, and even the cultivator in charge of lessons could hardly be bothered to look at him. But Lin Chen kept the secret of the ancient jade hidden. By day, he chopped wood and carried water to save up spirit stones; by night, he used the jade to refine the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. His cultivation soared at a speed no one could imagine. At the third level of Qi Refining, he drove off a challenger at the seventh level with his bare hands. At the ninth level, he ventured alone into the sect's forbidden Misty Valley and seized the Foundation Establishment opportunity, the Marrow-Washing Lotus, shocking the entire sect!

From then on, he made a spectacular comeback at every turn. During Foundation Establishment, he discovered a flaw in the sect's Mountain-Guarding Formation, which had gone unsolved for a hundred years, and was personally granted the title of “Core Inner-Sect Disciple” by the sect master
