I Outwit an Obsessive Mogul with Literature

“On the first day we signed the agreement, he told me, ‘Remember your place. Don’t fall in love with me.’ I shot back on the spot, ‘Don’t worry, Mr. Lu. Your face isn’t handsome enough to make my heart skip a beat.’ We tormented each other, constantly pushing and pulling. He thought he had everything under control, never realizing that every time I ‘lost control’ was a precise counterattack against his obsessive, unhealthy fixation on me. Later, he tore up the agreement and threw away his pride, standing in the rain all night beneath my studio window just to ask me, ‘Su Nian, what will it take for you to look at me?’ I held my umbrella and looked down at him. ‘You taught me this yourself: remember your place, and don’t come falling in love with me.’”
