An Ice-and-Fire Golden Age: From Fool to Peerless Statesman

Postdoctoral researcher Xing Dong transmigrates to the Tang Dynasty and becomes the dim-witted son of Chancellor Xing Wenwei.

He makes ice to beat the heat, his illustrated edition of Romance of the Three Kingdoms takes Chang’an by storm, and glassmaking makes him rich. Then he places first in the imperial examinations.

When Li Shimin asks him for advice at court, he presents recipes for gunpowder and a crude method of steelmaking.

With a hundred thousand Turkic horsemen at the gates, Xing Dong stands atop the city wall and smiles. “Today, let’s give you all something to hear.”

Boom! Boom! Boom!

When the smoke clears, the grassland’s proud eagles lie prostrate outside Chang’an.

Before the Tibetan king’s tent, he sets up a Mighty General cannon. “Surrender, or be blown to dust?”

Beneath the walls of Goguryeo’s capital, horse-drawn cannons line up in formation.

As Xing Dong’s steel tide crushes every enemy, Li Shimin gazes at him, his eyes burning with a complicated light.
