Where the Heart Finds Peace

The day Meng Xuan burned ten years of diaries, she thought she'd burned away all her grievances. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she thought she'd reached the darkest moment of her life. When she met Yan Nanjun, she thought she'd finally found a ray of hope. But only when Yan Nanjun's wife sat down in front of her with proof did she understand: she had simply been searching, again and again, for a sense of security from other people amid one crisis after another.

She had once compromised in a marriage she barely understood, enduring her husband's neglect and betrayal for the sake of their child. She had also lost herself in an affair, mistaking pretty words for true love. After the deception came to light, she stood in an unfamiliar city and watched students studying hard in a bookstore. Thinking of the little weeds in her old family courtyard, she suddenly understood the words from The Meaning of Life: life never stops just because you're in pain.

So she began living again: reading, writing, helping her daughter set up her new home. Even the words she wrote during chemotherapy eventually became Sunshine in the Hospital Ward, a book that brought warmth to others. One snowy Spring Festival, as she watched her family gathered together and held a reader's letter of thanks in her hands, she finally understood: the road home was never about finding the perfect marriage or love. It was about weathering the storms and finding, in the ordinary moments of everyday life, a sense of peace and security that belonged to her.
