The Fungus-Eaten City

Jiangcheng, once a thriving metropolis, is utterly transformed by a sudden, strange cloud of yellow dust. The dust is actually made up of spores from ancient parasitic fungi. Carried by the wind, they invade living bodies and control their Hosts, turning them into mindless, hideous monsters.

Gu Yan, the owner of a grocery store, is also a medical school dropout with some knowledge of biology. When the yellow dust first descends, he recalls an academic paper he once happened to read and quickly realizes this disaster is anything but ordinary. As the city's order collapses amid the monsters' roars, he doesn't panic. Instead, he grabs a military shovel and struggles to survive on the perilous streets.

During his escape, he saves Lin Wei, a researcher from a biological research institute who has been wrapped in fungal threads. Lin Wei carries an inhibitor that might be able to combat the fungus, making her the group's brains. Later, they meet Su Yue, a stubborn and unyielding nurse with information about the hospital's resources. Her medical skills prove especially important in the apocalypse.

The three join forces, heading for the central hospital in the hope of finding more inhibitors and supplies. But the challenges of the apocalypse go far beyond fighting monsters: there are shortages, struggles with human nature, and unknown dangers. Leading his companions through a city consumed by fungus, Gu Yan must evade the monsters hunting them and deal with one crisis after another, striving to find a way to survive amid despair.
