The War of Resistance Begins with the Battle of Shanghai

In August 1937, Li Feng, a military enthusiast, transmigrated by accident to the eve of the Battle of Shanghai and became a company commander in the Nationalist Army. With a brutal battle about to erupt, he quickly whipped his troops into shape, using his modern military knowledge and understanding of history to deal repeated heavy blows to the Japanese at Zhabei, Luodian, and other battlefields. Though he could not turn the tide at Shanghai, he successfully covered his allies' retreat and preserved their forces. When the Defense of Nanjing began, Li Feng led his battered troops in holding Zijin Mountain to the last. Using tunnel warfare and sniping tactics, he slowed the Japanese advance and bought time for civilians to evacuate. After Nanjing fell, he fought behind enemy lines, formed a guerrilla detachment, and sabotaged Japanese supply lines. During the Battle of Xuzhou, he launched a surprise attack on a Japanese command post. During the Battle of Wuhan, he was promoted to battalion commander. Making use of the terrain, he fought a series of delaying actions and foiled Japanese encirclement campaigns time and again. After the battle, he was ordered to join the expeditionary force and fight in Burma. At the Battle of Yenangyaung, he led his troops on a flanking route to rescue British forces. During the defense of Toungoo, his “elastic defense” inflicted heavy losses on the Japanese, demonstrating the resilience and ingenuity of Chinese soldiers. From Shanghai to the Yunnan-Burma front, Li Feng and his comrades used their blood to embody the nation's spirit of “fighting to the death rather than surrendering.” They might not have been able to change the outcome of every battle, but their faint sparks came together into a blaze, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the War of Resistance.
