Snow Cherry and the Prisoner: Her Painting Saved Me

At her father's wake, creditors close in. One contract takes her away from the abyss and into a thousand-year-old courtyard as still and beautiful as a painting.

Carrying the shadow of her mother's death, Ye Wan becomes the private restorer to Fu Xueying, the young head of an ancient family of painters and calligraphers. Fu Xueying is elegant as an old painting, yet her eyes hold the lonely desolation of a snowfield that never thaws. While restoring a damaged scroll, Ye Wan touches the pain she has hidden deep within. A matching cherry-blossom bookmark brings to light the unfinished love and regrets of two generations.

She is the warm tea Fu Xueying drinks on rainy nights, and the lullaby she hums to chase away her nightmares. Fu Xueying paints her portrait and inscribes it with the words, “May I be the spring breeze that melts this frozen world.” When rumors spread, Fu Xueying shields her, calling her a “successor in the art.” Beneath Kyoto's moon, in the mist of hot springs, amid the secrets of ancient scrolls... affection quietly grows through silent gazes, light touches of fingertips, and letters sent back and forth.

An invitation to study abroad leaves Ye Wan with a choice to make. “Go fly, Wan,” Fu Xueying tells her, her smile pale yet tender. They part at the airport, tears falling in silence. Across the sea, they exchange letters, and the cherry-blossom bookmark carries their endless longing. On a snowy night, Ye Wan returns and opens the studio door. The lonely figure turns around, stars lighting her eyes and becoming gentle waves.

“I'm back, Xueying. Your spring breeze... has come home.” They hold hands and gaze at each other as the fire crackles. The cage of fate is also a home for the soul. In a serene, beautiful courtyard, two lonely souls use art and companionship to compose a heartfelt elegy of redemption for each other.
