Our Chaos Is the Universe’s Tattoo

Humanity has gone completely insane!!! An advanced civilization known as the Observers has kept humanity in a “protected zone” on the edge of the Milky Way, recording its development as casually as watching ants move house. The Observers' technology is so far beyond humanity's that they can crush stars with a flick of the wrist and use black holes as garbage dumps. To them, human nuclear weapons aren't even fireworks. Humanity's civilization rating is “redundant data slated for deletion.” The Observers have already scheduled a “spring cleaning”: in 72 hours, an antimatter bomb will flatten the solar system. Chen Ye's plan can be summed up in one sentence: “Turn all of humanity's ‘chaos’ into explosives powerful enough to blow up their database.” He gathers a bunch of lunatics and launches “Project Tower of Babel 2.0”: - Get poets around the world to stop writing “the starry sky is beautiful” and start writing “black holes are the universe's pimples, and the Observers are idiots who pop them”; - Have mathematicians hide swear words in their equations, such as changing E=mc² to “E=the Observers' asses²”; - Have couples kiss passionately in public squares while hurling insults at each other, and mothers tell the cameras, “I love my child, but sometimes I want to shove them back into my belly”; In Earth's sky, the Observers' once-mighty starship breaks apart like a shattered glass marble. Its fragments fall and become a luminous rain. Standing on the roof of the observatory, Chen Ye hears the last Observer screaming through his communicator. For the first time, they show “fear,” an “irrational” emotion. With a cigarette between his lips, he grins. “You know where you lost? You were too clean. And we... we're gloriously, vibrantly filthy.”
