Minister of Works: But I Specialize in Preventing Scandals

Li Pan, a PhD in civil engineering, wakes up reincarnated as the newly appointed Minister of Works in the Qianji Dynasty!

The good news: His expertise is a perfect fit, and he's a first-rank official.

The bad news: Every building in this dynasty is a giant wooden contraption, and if it goes unrepaired for three days, it collapses! The emperor sits on a “rocking chair” during court, and ministers bring their own helmets to meetings.

With the Imperial Ancestral Temple about to collapse again, Minister Li pulls out a formula for reinforced concrete. “Your Majesty! This material will last ten thousand years!”

The traditionalists erupt as one. “Outrageous! Cement fouls the ancestral feng shui!”

“Those stone pillars are hideous!” Li Pan slams the table and leaps to his feet. “The buildings collapse so often we can't even find the dragon throne anymore, and you're still talking about feng shui?! First, let's get His Majesty down from the rafters!”

And so begins a riotous infrastructure revolution in a dynasty where something collapses every three days: sand, gravel, and cement against a thousand years of woodworking, scientific reasoning against the mysticism of feng shui!
