The Brain-Computer Age: Code and Soulfire

In 2047, neuroscientist Lin Xia develops “Soulfire,” a brain-computer interface that digitizes consciousness. But during clinical trials, a bizarre accident occurs: after their consciousnesses are uploaded, the volunteers all begin displaying behavioral patterns of mythical creatures from the Classic of Mountains and Seas. Meanwhile, war correspondent Chen Zhou discovers the ruins of a prehistoric civilization in the Congo Basin. The patterns on its stone walls turn out to match the underlying code of the “Soulfire” System exactly. As Lin Xia investigates, she discovers that her DNA contains a key to awakening ancient consciousness. Humanity is not a civilization native to Earth, but a “consciousness vessel” created by an alien civilization using biological 3D-printing technology. When the quantum computer “Kunlun” on the far side of the moon is awakened, a conspiracy spanning 120,000 years comes to light: the alien creators sealed the consciousnesses of a defeated race inside the human genome, and the “Soulfire” System is actually the key to unlocking the prison. Lin Xia must choose between “deleting all copies of consciousness” and “freeing an ancient race that will destroy Earth.” What she doesn't know is that her daughter has already become a “living server” connecting the two civilizations through a brain-computer interface.
