The Bride Substitute’s Guide to Taming Treasures

Main storyline: Su Wan, a modern office worker, unexpectedly finds herself transported into the body of an abandoned daughter of an ancient-era prime minister's household. Reborn with memories of how her family exploited her and caused her death in her previous life, she is assigned to take her legitimate younger sister's place and marry into a general's family guarding the frontier. She expects a living hell, but discovers that her husband, Xie Yan, may be a commander of the Imperial Guard's secret forces, yet is remarkably attentive. Then there's her eight-year-old stepson, Xie Zhaoning, a mischievous little rascal who used to tear down rooms and pull up roof tiles. With a few “tricks” and a dose of modern parenting, she gets him to study and learn his manners. He eventually astonishes the capital by taking first place in the children's imperial examination. Along the way, her jealous younger sister schemes against her in secret, while the older members of the clan look down on her and make things difficult. Su Wan scrimps to save every copper coin for herself while drawing on her past life's experience to counter every move. Somehow, amid all the chaos, she turns life in the general's household into something sweet, and makes Xie Yan go from “marrying her for convenience” to having her at the very heart of his life.
