The Azure Luan Shines on My Return

A sudden death turns her from a crisis-management star into the lowest-ranking illegitimate daughter in the Great Yin Dynasty.

When Lin Weiwei opens her eyes again, she is kneeling on wet stone slabs in a torrential downpour. Her legitimate elder sister drives a silver needle into her arm and sneers, “A servant’s whelp has no business using a porcelain bowl!” Survival becomes her first lesson. She dissects a poisoned horse to prove her innocence, earns her first fortune selling caramel milk tea, and stumbles upon the Crown Prince’s secret dealings with the enemy at a Buddhist temple. Now she is forced to join forces with Xiao Heng, Prince Jing, the man rumored to have murdered his brother and imprisoned his father.

He gives her a blade; she answers with thunder.

When Xiao Heng tosses her a bloodstained ledger and says, “Either become my weapon or end up a corpse in a mass grave,” Lin Wei turns a rouge shop into an intelligence hub. She challenges the feudal monopoly on wealth with women’s passbooks at the Huitong Bank, and saves thousands of people from a plague in the northern frontier with a bowl of penicillin. She claws her way out of the thorny confines of the inner household, only to refuse the phoenix seal in the imperial court: “I never wanted to be empress. I want a proper world where women can practice law, practice medicine, and manage their own finances!”

What is forged in the flames is not only love, but also the first spark of a new civilization.

She stains the field ridges with blood to protect improved rice seeds, and splashes ink across corrupt scholars to establish a women’s academy. When northern horsemen threaten the border and the realm lies in ruins, a former brothel courtesan carries military intelligence for her, a widow once condemned to be drowned fights for her in court, and a loyal servant with a severed arm burns the enemy camp to the ground. And the man who once said, “Power must be paved with blood,” finally lays down his troops for her over a cup of wine. With his own hand, he inscribes her Charter of Women on the library plaque: “My wife, Lin Wei, is the first ray of light to pierce the long night of the Great Yin.”

From illegitimate daughter to peerless stateswoman, she wields modern knowledge like a flame, burns away corruption, and makes the cry of the azure phoenix ring through the heavens.
