Shadows Over Shanghai

Shadows Over Shanghai is an espionage epic set in Shanghai from 1937 to 1945. Underground Communist Party operative Lin Mo assumes the identity of a foreign firm clerk and builds an intelligence network amid the dangers of the foreign concessions. Meanwhile, he and Shen Qiubai, an operations captain in the Military Statistics Bureau, go from bitter rivals to allies united by different paths.

Under the Japanese army's iron heel, the shadow of 76 Jisifei Road hangs over the entire city. The warrants issued by secret police chief Chen Shu are a sword poised over everyone's heads, while the Sakura Plan devised by Nanzo Yunko, the ace of Japan's Special Higher Police, targets the heart of the Communist Party. Lin Mo walks the line between life and death, sometimes posing as a confidential secretary at 76 to infiltrate the enemy's lair, other times joining forces with the Green Gang to secure vital medicines. During key battles such as the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Campaign and Operation No. 1, he risks his life to deliver intelligence that can turn the tide.

When the attack on Pearl Harbor tears away the foreign concessions' veneer, and a traitor within the Military Statistics Bureau joins forces with Japanese collaborators, faith becomes the only light. Nanzo Yunko's death, Shen Qiubai's secret protection, and Chen Shu's relentless pursuit drive the clandestine war to its breaking point. Even as the dawn of victory appears, the medals of those who went undercover still bear the mark of sacrifices left unspoken. They are sparks in the dark night of the isolated city, using their loyalty as a torch to light the road to their nation's rebirth.
