Deals Beneath the Operating Lights

Lu Ren, a top surgeon at Renhe Hospital, sees his world collapse during the bizarre surgery on Ye Qian, the wife of his close friend Zhou Qiang. What should have been a routine valve replacement turns into a fatal disaster when an exorbitantly priced medical device called “Heartshadow” mysteriously ruptures. Lu Ren sees the defective batch number that should have been destroyed, but amid the chaos, the hospital swiftly “seals away” the evidence and forcibly suspends him.

Determined to expose the truth, Lu Ren sneaks alone into the hospital’s core database. With the desperate help of a mysterious hacker known as Shadow, he digs up damning evidence in a graveyard of cold data: the defective batch of “Heartshadow” was marked as a “research prototype,” and its implantation directly caused Ye Qian’s death in what was recorded as “fatal equipment failure”! The records are immediately erased by the hospital’s internal defense system. While fleeing, Lu Ren is ambushed by a professional killer, and Zhou Qiang is violently taken away. At death’s door, Lu Ren uses his own body as a shield and seizes the pathology specimen box Zhou Qiang risks his life to pass him, a box holding the secret of Ye Qian’s heart.

Clutching the bloodstained evidence, Lu Ren is on the verge of shock in the emergency room. The upright head nurse, Zhang Yun, risks her life to slip him an unknown clue. Before he can catch his breath, a joint investigation team from the municipal health supervision commission descends like an iron curtain. Under the pretext of “cooperating with an investigation into a major safety incident,” they demand that all evidence be sealed immediately and take Lu Ren away. The operating lights go dark, and a sinister black box opens beneath the operating table. Lu Ren clutches the cold specimen box as if holding the remains of a fallen comrade, standing before the impregnable wall of power. When a sanctuary devoted to saving lives becomes a hunting ground for capital, is the truth worth crashing into the iron curtain with one’s own flesh and blood? A final showdown over medical compassion and the dignity of life begins beneath a blood-red dawn.
