Shanghai 1941

Shanghai has fallen. 1941. Lin Xiao, code-named Gray Falcon, receives a death order: destroy the Japanese military's top-secret plan, Imperial Eagle. His target is the ravishing socialite Shen Pei, who has access to the residence of Chief Engineer Hirano Kiyoshiro.

In the lavish dance hall, undercurrents surge. Shen Pei's jade earring brushes his shoulder, but the words spilling from her red lips are a deadly whisper: “Mr. Lin, your gun is digging into me.” Has his identity been exposed? Is she testing him? Or is this an even deeper trap?

That night, in an abandoned church steeped in the stench of death, Lin Xiao waits in vain for his superior. Instead, he finds a bloodstained microfilm bearing a final order from his superior, Lao Liao: “Execute Cliff's Edge! Pose as a traitor and infiltrate the enemy!”

Bearing the name of traitor and stained with his comrades' blood, Lin Xiao adopts the alias Lin Muzhi and willingly steps into the abyss. Yet inside the Hirano residence, Shen Pei smiles sweetly and extends a cold hand. “Allow me to introduce my new partner, the person in charge of Imperial Eagle.”

A partner whose true identity is impossible to discern, a succession of nerve-racking tests. Every mission is a dance with death; every glance conceals a killing intent. Is she a venomous snake carefully planted by the Special Higher Police? Or a deadly ally operating deep undercover? What earth-shattering secret lies behind those eyes that see through everything?

When flames engulf the city as the Eagle's Nest laboratory burns, Lin Xiao finds her jade earring in the ruins. On its back, a line of tiny Russian words rings out like thunder:

“Comrade, your descent over the cliff has only just begun.”

Double agents dance together in the abyss. Trust is the most extravagant poison at the edge of a cliff, while love may be the only salvation, or the deepest grave.

Beneath the mask lies an unfathomable abyss. Every step is a life-or-death game.
