Millstone Ravine, 1970

In the mid-to-late 1970s, during that extraordinary era, in a remote village somewhere in Heilongjiang, Jilin, or Liaoning in northern China, lay the Moshi Gou Production Team. The harsh natural environment of snow and ice, endless black soil, long winters, and brief, scorching summers; the scarcity of material goods; the distinctive local customs; and the political atmosphere of the time all shaped life there. Caught between the vastness of the countryside and the narrow confines of reality, young people from different backgrounds struggle, change, form bonds, and fall apart. Against the backdrop of that extraordinary era, youth, ideals, survival, and dignity collide with fierce intensity. The land is silent, the era is silent, and beneath the characters’ repression lies a deep well of resilience. The somber, weighty title hints at the tremendous emotions and tides of fate surging beneath the silence, inviting readers to uncover the stories hidden there.
