I Flip the Table in a Haunted World

Cognitive contamination has erupted across the globe. Moonlight can make humans grow compound eyes. As an immune host, I lead a squad of lunatics in deciphering the rules of death: a psychology PhD discovers that patients must cry to survive in the Smiling Ward, only to trigger a hospital-wide frenzy of fake sobbing; when a hacker girl tampers with the rules on an electronic display, blood suddenly seeps from the screen. But the strangest one is the animal communicator who is always getting scratched by stray cats. Whenever the contamination worsens, one of the wounds on his body disappears. Then I spot a familiar pair of compound eyes reflected in his goggles... “Watch out for our teammate!” The source of contamination we raised ourselves is hiding in our squad, smiling.
