Sparks of Espionage in Shanghai

By day, he is a quiet handyman who repairs watches in the puppet government's telegraph office, an unremarkable man who keeps to himself. By night, he is an undercover agent sending hope across the airwaves.

In 1926, neon lights shimmer over the Shanghai concessions, where undercurrents churn beneath the surface. Luo Xiaoman, a young watchmaking apprentice, is unexpectedly drawn into this silent war and given the codename “Watchmaker.”

When he first enters the trade, his hands shake and his heart races; the codebook weighs as much as life and death. With enemy gun barrels closing in, he once endured a long, endless night on half a burnt flatbread that a comrade had given his life to obtain.

Through betrayal and sacrifice, he is tempered and hammered like steel. Drawing on a watchmaker's meticulous eye, he learns to detect danger in silence and unravel conspiracies in the smallest details, quietly weaving an intelligence network through the Japanese and puppet forces' web of spies.

From a trembling rookie, he gradually becomes a veteran walking the knife's edge. When he looks into a watch's glass once more, he sees reflected not a man standing alone, but countless undying lights, and the soul of a nation awakening in the darkness.
