Neon Trap: Pearl Traces

Through the eyes of Su Yao, a girl who works in the nightlife scene, this story tears open the abyss of crime hidden beneath the city’s neon lights. Blood-red high heels at three in the morning, a plea for help on a dressing-room note, a missing girl in a metal trunk... As her companions one by one fall into darkness, Su Yao clutches a string of pearls still warm to the touch. Each one holds a name: Xiaoyun, A-K, Chen Yu... They are souls struggling to survive in the nightlife scene, “merchandise” in the organ trafficking chain, and the light Su Yao must bring back.

From deafening private rooms to heavily guarded villas, from whispered conversations in night-school classrooms to tearful testimony in court, Su Yao follows the trail step by step with shattered evidence and her companions’ dying wishes, aided by Officer Zhou. She has seen the metal trunk beneath the camphor tree and heard the desperate rush of water from a bathtub, yet she has never stopped believing: the girls trapped by neon, the names swallowed by darkness, will one day return in another form.

When the last pearl is strung onto the necklace and the roses at Pearl House fill the courtyard, Su Yao finally understands: being reborn does not mean forgetting the scars left by the abyss. It means carrying the pearls those scars have become and lighting the way for more girls. This is a hunt for the truth in pursuit of redemption, and a song of rebirth for all the “broken pearls.” Even if you fall into the deepest trap, you must hold tight to the light that belongs to you.
