Coveting

Multicolored mists swallow the mortal world, while gnawing at the mountains and whispering of ancient ferocity. Mo Sanshi, a streetwise “know-it-all” who grew up in the city’s muddy underbelly, was forced into the bone-chilling Cloudtrace Gorge simply because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut. There’s no golden finger here, only the cunning to read the situation and an instinct for avoiding danger. Ascending to immortality in a rainbow of light is a legend in the distant heavens. The roar of stone lions and the shadowy tracks of mist-martens are the reality beneath his feet. Kneel, beg for mercy, help vicious beasts hatch their eggs, scratch the mountain god’s itches… If it keeps him alive until tomorrow, he’ll do it. Until, in a silent bone-strewn waystation, he touches a cold stone shard engraved with a sinister broken sword… An ancient map that points to a way out? Or a death warrant? In this world where all things possess spirits and the boundary between immortals and mortals is full of strange mysteries, watch as an ant who knows the art of “keeping his head down” uses the humblest wisdom to tip the most perilous game. Amid a world where splendor and slaughter coexist, he’ll find a way to stay alive.
