The Midnight Supermarket

On a stormy night, I duck into a 24-hour supermarket to escape the rain.

Blood seeps from the refrigerators, and shelves crawl with infant limbs.

The cashier smiles. "Welcome to the Midnight Supermarket."

Every hour brings new customers:

A cat abuser is dragged into the darkness by a cat spirit;

A scammer melts in front of a mirror;

A cheating husband is pulled into a fitting room by countless hands...

As the twelfth customer leaves, the shrill sound of brakes rings out outside.

I lock the door and open the ledger. Beside every customer's name is the hour of their death.

And my name is written on the last page.

"Boss, it's time to close up," says the person in the mirror.
