Li Yuan Exposes My Identity as a Tang Imperial Grandson

Li Chengyuan, a top student of agricultural science, wakes up to find himself the Tang Dynasty’s Crown Prince, and, to make matters worse, he has lost his memory. From the start, he is stuck with the hellishly difficult identity of a beggar.

As he scrapes by in a dilapidated temple in Chang'an, using modern knowledge to turn trash into treasure, an arrogant old man with a gaze full of untold stories latches onto him, claiming to be “Old Li.”

“Kid, what is this roasted potato? It’s delicious!”

“Kid, do you know who the current emperor is?”

“Kid, your grandpa here will invest in you. Come up with some more novel inventions!”

Li Chengyuan assumes he’s just a foolish old man with money to burn, not knowing that “Grandpa Li” is none other than the retired emperor Li Yuan, secretly searching for his grandson!

From then on, one thinks he’s found a powerful patron, while the other thinks he’s enjoying the company of his grandson. Together, they embark on a hilarious entrepreneurial adventure.

They empty the coffers of the Five Surnames and Seven Great Clans with glass mirrors, and shock the entire court with high-yield potatoes, turning Li Shimin, the emperor for the ages, into a fan who can’t stop asking for updates.

“Dear nephew, how many potatoes can you grow per mu? When can we introduce them across the empire?”

“Dear nephew, can that cement you mentioned really let us build the Great Wall at a thousand li a day?”

When Li Chengyuan is hailed by Li Shimin as a “blessing from heaven to the Tang Dynasty,” and his true identity is gradually revealed, the bloody mists of the Xuanwu Gate once more descend. With the vengeance of a father’s murder tangled up with the tenderness of family, what path will Li Chengyuan choose, now standing at the heart of Tang power?

This is a lighthearted, laugh-out-loud tale of a modern soul in the golden age of the Tang Dynasty, fooling both the emperor and the retired emperor while building an entirely new Tang empire along the way.
