A Death Sentence? The Noble Consort Hua and I Have Come to Claim Your Lives!

After drinking poisoned wine, Zhen Huan is reborn alongside Nian Shilan, who was sentenced to death. They return to the day of the palace selection, before entering the imperial palace. The bitter feuds of their past lives remain vivid, but their endless regret and utter disillusionment with the man called the emperor make them realize that they are the ones who understand each other best: kindred spirits. At the crossroads of fate, they make a momentous decision: to join forces.

Nian Shilan is no longer the favored Consort Hua, spoiled and arrogant. She conceals her sharp edge, uses her knowledge of palace affairs to secretly pave the way for Zhen Huan, and works to temper her brother Nian Gengyao’s domineering nature and save her family. Zhen Huan, meanwhile, no longer clings to an illusory romance. She plays along, using her resemblance to “Wanwan” to quickly win the emperor’s attention, but beneath the surface she has become a cold-blooded politician. With a tacit understanding no one else can detect, the two stage one brilliant “palace battle” after another. They continue to appear at odds, while secretly joining forces to eliminate the Empress, An Lingrong, and every other potential threat.

Their ultimate goal is no longer the emperor’s love, but power itself. Zhen Huan manages the “imperial favor,” becoming the nominal head of the harem, while Nian Shilan commands the “military might,” securing the army’s support through her brother. Together, they support Fourth Prince Hongli, since the inevitability of history is their most reliable weapon. In the end, Hongli ascends the throne. Zhen Huan becomes the powerful Empress Dowager, while Nian Shilan retires in glory with the Nian clan under the title of “Princess Protector of the State,” achieving a true win-win. This story makes up for the tragedy of the two women destroying each other, elevating their tale into an epic of women empowering one another in desperate circumstances.
