Mountain Hunter

Chen Shi, a poor hunter from Shiquan Village on the southwestern frontier of Great Chu, lost his parents at a young age and lives with his gravely ill grandmother. He makes a living by hunting and gathering herbs, relying on his knowledge of the mountains and their wildlife. Starting with a winter-night rabbit hunt that saves his grandmother, he gradually learns the layout of rabbit warrens, the feeding habits of pheasants, and the ranges of wild boars. He gathers precious medicinal herbs, including century-old ginseng and wild lingzhi, and improves their lives through dealings with Lin Wanzhao, the owner of a medicine shop in a neighboring village. He rallies the villagers to hunt in groups and cultivate medicinal herb fields, confronts crises such as bandits, flash floods, and blizzards, and ultimately becomes the village head who protects the mountains. From poverty to prosperity, he also safeguards the peace of his village.
