After Failing the Civil Service Exam, I Went to Japan to Become a Mayor

Reborn in 1990, Xu Minxuan fails the civil service exam and heads overseas to Japan.

> Who could have guessed that Japan’s economic bubble would burst, leaving him to stumble into a low-level government job?

> A landslide destroys an inn, and the government turns a blind eye: “You weren’t registered? You don’t deserve compensation!”

> Xu Minxuan flips the table in anger: “I’ll become the mayor myself!”

> His campaign promises shock Atami: free healthcare! Free lunches for all students! The citizens rejoice.

> Japanese netizens dig up his furious denunciation of Yasukuni Shrine and mock him: “Does the Great Unity Party want to take over the world?”

> The people of Atami rise up: “Get lost! Whoever gives us free lunches is our dad!”

> Xu Minxuan wins by a landslide, and a five-star red flag goes up in the mayor’s office.

> He then establishes the “China-Japan Friendship Technology Exchange Fund,” and Japanese technology pours into China.

> A Sony engineer jumps ship: “They’re offering triple the salary over there!”

> Toshiba machine tools mysteriously “lose their way” and arrive in Shenzhen in the dead of night.

> The people of Atami ask, “Mayor, how about building another hot spring?”

> Xu Minxuan smiles. “Sure! We’ll build it using the latest maglev technology, and build it in China!”
