Parachuted-In Secretary Jia: The Downfall of a Power Thief

After being released from prison, Jia Tianzhen harbors a frenzied obsession with power. In a dingy rented room, he carefully fabricates a résumé, then relies on the half-baked skills he picked up in prison and his shameless scheming to enlist former cellmates as go-betweens and break into the corridors of power. Behind the mask of “Jia Tianzhen,” he weaves a web of crime between the capital and Jiangzhou. Through despicable means such as forging records, currying favor with the powerful, and manipulating public opinion, he climbs step by step to the heights of power. But this “road to power,” paved with lies and conspiracies, is fraught with danger. From the traps of desire he encounters when first entering officialdom to the power struggles that follow his promotions, Jia Tianzhen sinks deep into the mire of ambition. He colludes with criminal forces, engages in rampant exchanges of money for influence during old-town redevelopment and construction tenders, fabricates achievements, and stages extravagant farces, turning public authority into a tool for satisfying his private desires. Yet the eyes of justice are never far away. A journalist’s lone investigation, the people’s awakening and resistance, and the Discipline Inspection Commission’s relentless pursuit together form an inescapable net. In the battle between good and evil, fought both in the world of data and on the ground, Jia Tianzhen’s crimes are gradually exposed, and he falls from the clouds into the mud. At last, during a fierce fight in a rented room on a rainy night and the final showdown in an abandoned factory, the sword of justice pierces the gloom. Jia Tianzhen’s dream of power collapses completely, and he faces the full force of the law. After the storm of justice, the land of Jiangzhou thrives anew, affirming the timeless truth that justice will ultimately prevail over evil.
