On the first night after Ning Xiaoye's third birthday, when she and her parents begin sleeping in separate rooms, disaster strikes the Ning household. Her mother sends her through the Gate of Time, and she travels back fifteen years, to a time before her parents have even met. She appears on the set of a new drama starring her biological father, who is now twenty-eight.

At this point, the Ning family consists of a sixty-seven-year-old elder, Ning Xiaoyi, and four grown children: the eldest brother, Ning Chushuo, at forty-eight; the second sister, Ning Shuhe, and third sister, Ning Shuyue, both forty-four; and the youngest brother, Ning Chiyan, at twenty-eight. None of the grown children are married or have children, making it seem as if the Ning family is about to die out.

But Ning Xiaoye slips through the Gate of Time and returns to the present.

Well, look at that: the Ning family has an heir!

Ning Xiaoyi declares, “I don't care whether you traveled here from the future or the past. If you're a Ning, you'll be cherished and raised to be an heir.”

Ning Chushuo: “I support that! Girls should be doted on. If there's nothing else for me to do, I'll get back to my research.”

Ning Shuhe: “I support that! My little niece absolutely has to be cherished. I'm going to make the Ning family bigger and stronger, then leave it to Xiaoye.”

Ning Shuyue: “I support that! What girl shouldn't be doted on? I'll do my best to take my career to the next level. Then, when I fold it into the Ning Group for Xiaoye to inherit, it'll be a great addition.”

Ning Chiyan: “I support that! Of course I'll cherish my daughter! Just watch your dad conquer the entertainment industry, rake in money every day, and build a fortune for you to inherit someday.”

Ning Xiaoye: “Wow, Grandpa, my uncles, my aunties, and Dad all love me so much! I'll work hard and give it everything I've got!”
