Synopsis

Dark Epic #Journey to the West Reimagined #Rise of the Demon Buddha #Master and Disciples Break Apart #Lovecraftian Buddhist Doctrine #Tragic Ensemble Cast The bliss of Spirit Mountain was built upon the bones of all living beings; The eighty-one ordeals were nothing but a feast for the gods and Buddhas. On the day Tang Sanzang becomes a Buddha, he discovers that the pilgrimage for scriptures was a scam devised by Spirit Mountain to harvest the suffering of all beings. As the Buddha’s light bears down on him, a devouring black lotus blooms in his palm, and he falls into the role of the Demon Lord of Annihilation: “Compassion is a lie? Then let demonic flames consume these man-eating Buddhas!” The Great Sage points his staff at his master, loyalty crumbling away in his eyes; Sha Seng’s monk’s staff splits the earth, while ten thousand demons clear the way for the Demon Buddha; The nine-toothed rake gnaws at gods and Buddhas, and Bajie laughs as he devours his enemies; The White Dragon burns his soul to forge armor, his spine bearing the karmic burden of slaying Heaven. The Thunderclap Monastery collapses, and Tathagata’s golden body shatters. Standing amid the corpses of gods and Buddhas, Tang Sanzang lets the dark Buddha’s voice ring through the Three Realms: “Today I finally understand: I am the true scripture!” A revolution that slays Buddhas, A dark epic that tears away Journey to the West’s sugarcoated facade. When the pilgrims become the buriers of Buddhas, what comes after annihilation: an abyss, or the true promised land of all beings?

I've been using Fanqie for four or five years now. Looking back, it feels like all the recent stories have been pretty much the same. You can tell how they'll end after reading the opening. Are there any books that really stand out?

Ideally, the rating should be at least 9. As long as it's good, I'm happy. It should have lots of chapters already or be complete, so I can binge-read it. Thanks!
