The people of Chang'an poured into the streets to welcome the legendary monk, but he soon found himself caught in an even more complex web: the emperor's political maneuvering, tensions between Buddhism and Daoism, the watchful eyes of Western Regions powers, and the monumental task of translating scriptures to preserve civilization.
