The Throne Is Yours, Just Don't Touch Your Sister-in-Law!

[A little angst + a deranged emperor + brother-in-law and sister-in-law + love and hate] In late spring, Emperor Li Zhao is gravely ill, lying on his dragon bed with barely any life left in him. Before he dies, he passes the throne to his younger brother, Prince Ning, Li Heng, and repeatedly warns him, “Don’t touch your sister-in-law,” hoping Li Heng will keep Empress Su Wanqing safe. But Li Heng is consumed by his desire for the throne. He only takes in the first half of his brother’s words, and once the emperor breathes his last, he quickly snatches up the Imperial Seal, unable to hide his delight.

That night, chaos engulfs the palace. Li Heng sits in the imperial study, plotting his next moves and ordering people to keep watch on Su Wanqing. Su Wanqing kneels before the emperor’s coffin, weeping. Li Heng arrives with an umbrella, respectfully saying that he will inherit the throne, but his gaze toward Su Wanqing is utterly cold.

Li Heng and Li Zhao had been at odds since childhood, and now Li Heng has finally gotten what he wanted. But because Li Heng ignores his brother’s dying charge concerning the empress, this change of power is bound to set off a fierce struggle over power, desire, and emotion. The palace, already battered by the storm, is about to face even greater turmoil.
